For those who haven’t been following me on social media, the ultrasonic tank is up and running! Cleanings and other services available have been updated on the Services page.
We wound up getting lucky with repairs. The pump and ultrasonics weren’t functioning, and the manuacturer estimated repairs would be around $2000. However, through the diagnostic process, we found that the pump wasn’t actually receiving the proper voltage. Once we discovered that, the next step was to confirm the proper voltage was actually going into the machine. The outlet output was correct, so my father-in-law(a marine engineer) suggested double checking the plug itself.
Upon further inspection, we realized the prongs had been poorly modified, and when we took it apart we found one of the two hot contacts wasn’t even connected… We got a new plug, wired it up correctly, and suprise, suprise!! The pump and ultrasonics finally worked, for the low low price of $20 🎉🎉🎉
The tank has already gotten some use from recent customers, but I hope now that this post is live I’ll be seeing more of Tucson’s wonderful musicians coming in for cleanings!
For those who have never had a professional cleaning done, it’s typically recommended to service your brasss instrument once per year, though depending on use and personal body chemistry, some people may need cleaning more or less frequently… If your valves or slides are sticking, you’re probably past due for a clean and service!
At the time of this post, turn around times are currently short. If you’re on break from school, now is the perfect time to bring your horn in!
